This term we are revising our attendance procedures because I am concerned at the number of sessions that are being missed by children, at different stages over the course of a term. It remains the case that any term-time holidays / leave will not be authorised, nor approved of by the school. Whilst I appreciate that this can place pressure on families from time to time, this must be balanced against the importance of developing an appreciation of the need for high attendance amongst our pupils. Indeed, we know there is a direct link between attendance and achievement, and that those children who regularly fail to come to school often face difficulties at High School and in later life. We will shortly publish our revised procedures but, needless to say, I wish to inform parents and carers that the school will use fines and prosecutions where there are clear cases of persistent, and unnecessary, absence.
