It was really very disappointing that 36 children were absent on the first school day of the year. Many of these absences have not been authorised and this may bring inevitable consequences later in the year. The school will not authorise term time absence other than in exceptional circumstances. If you do need to apply for absence, please supply evidence to support the application (flight tickets, confirmation of bereavement such as a death certificate, consultants’ letters, legal documentation). In many cases, it will still be the case that term time absence cannot be approved.

After a lovely summer break it was great to see our children returning today for a fresh start to the new academic year. Whilst our youngest children are at the start of their new school lives, it was also pleasing to learn about those who left us in July and the positive start they are making at their respective high schools. So, we wish them well and now welcome our Nursery and Reception children to what I hope will be a happy, successful and rewarding time at Montpelier. For the children who have returned for a new school year, this is a good time to set their sights on being as ambitious as possible during a year of interesting and active opportunities.
